4 Ayurvedic Lifestyle Practices for Fall
As summer slowly fades and we leave behind the social atmosphere of long summer nights, our body and mind need time to transition into the next season.
Fall is a time for re-grounding back into the most supportive routines for our lifestyle and wellbeing. It’s an invitation to re-dedicated ourselves to what matters most. It’s a time for refining, for sitting with presence, and deepening what’s been cultivated.
While summer takes us through an upward spiral toward freedom, joy and abundance, we have Fall to thank for the energy that unwinds us gently back to down, turning inward to ourselves.
Here you’ll find four Ayurvedic recommendations to drip into a slow transition towards Fall paired with four questions to ask yourself to support your integration.
[1] Find gratitude for the lessons, gifts & opportunities of summer
In Ayurveda + yoga philosophy we practice santosha, meaning contentment. The teaching of santosha shows us that it is only from a place of appreciation for what we have, presence in the season we are in, and contentment as a daily practice that we can truly feel fulfilled.
Reflection
What lessons, reflections, and celebrations are you taking with you from this season? What are you letting go of or making peace with?
[2] Dedicate yourself back to a simple, nourishing routine
Ayurveda teaches simplicity. It is by connecting back to our true nature that we can find the most peace, harmony, and balance.
Reflection
What is one routine that you’ve been missing? How can you bring a simple routine back into your life?
[3] Cultivate a meditation practice
Summer can be quite ungrounded for most of us. The buzzy, fun, spontaneous nature of the season can often impact how grounded or ungrounded we feel within ourselves.
Notice if you’re feeling ungrounded and know that the Fall months are here to support you in getting back into your body.
One of the best ways to do this is to practice daily meditation.
Here is a short 12 minute meditation practice to try.
Reflection
How will you start to ground your mind & body?
[4] Eat local + seasonal
My favorite way to shop seasonal foods is by buying local at the growers market. Eating in alignment with the seasons can attune your own body and mind to the energy of the season that we are in.
You don’t have to do it perfectly. The best place to start is by shopping local at your farmers market.
Try a new creative recipe, intuitively buy the vegetables and fruits you feel called to. Try not to over think it. Let it be fun.
P.S. we have our favorite carrot soup recipe here if you want to give it a try.
Reflection
Is there a local farmers market you can stop by? Is there a new recipe you’ve been wanting to try?
