3 Herbal Remedies for Anxiety
Alright sweet friends, let’s talk about it – anxiety. The WORST. Right? Here’s the thing. If anxiety has been a dominant state of being for you, I want you to know that this doesn’t have to be the case if you’re willing to explore herbs as allies for your emotional wellbeing.
I am living proof of it.
Last summer, I found myself in a pit of anxiety. Very unhappy. Entirely overwhelmed. And concerned for myself if I’m being perfectly honest. I remember walking into a woo little herbal shop and stumbled upon an herbalists business card. I was pretty desperate to FEEL better so I took the card and brought it home with me. I’ve been working 1:1 with this herbalist ever since that day. She has guided me in one of the most deeply healing journeys I’ve embarked on – my relationship with anxiety.
Anxiety is no longer my primary state of being. It pops up here and there, but it is no longer a daily occurrence for me.
Herbs were the path that got me here - to feeling emotional clarity, my version of peace, and an ability to cope with any uncomfortable emotions that come my way. This one’s for you if you’re ready to embark on a similar path & know that my heart is with you. All the way. You got this.
My 3 suggestions for herbal allies that I’ve personally worked with to soothe my anxiety are below for you. Try one, try all three. They’d be a gorgeous blend all together. And always, reach out or leave a comment with any questions for me. I’m here & these herbs are here to support. As allies + a friend.
[1] Milky oat tops
Milky oat tops are known to be a mood lifter and mood stabilizer. They also act as a mild anti-depressent and are considered a nirvine. Nirvines have a natural ability to calm and soothe the nerves. Which is exactly what your system is most likely craving if you’ve ben in a chronic state of anxiety. Milky oat tops are also incredible to support big life transitions. They’re like a big hug from a best friend that reminds you everything is going to be even BETTER than just okay.
[2] Lemon Balm
To me, Lemon Balm feels like a lighter herb to work with from my relationship with its medicinal properties. When we think of a balm, we think of a soother. Something to apply to our system to give it a gentle aid.
“Lemon balm is a member of the mint family and is considered a calming herb. It was used as far back as the Middle Ages to reduce stress and anxiety, promote sleep, improve appetite, and ease pain and discomfort from indigestion (including gas and bloating).”

[3] Passionflower
Passionflower is an herb that undeniably found me and wanted to work with me on my healing journey. The name itself felt like everything I needed. Give me the passion & give it to me in flower form ;)
“Passionflower is used today to treat anxiety and insomnia. Scientists believe passionflower works by increasing levels of a chemical called gamma aminobutyric acid (GABA) in the brain. GABA lowers the activity of some brain cells, making you feel more relaxed.”
Mountsinai.org
“Early studies suggest it might help relieve insomnia and anxiety. It appears to boost the level of gamma-aminobutyric acid (GABA) in your brain. This compound lowers brain activity, which may help you relax and sleep better.”
